The Oak Savannah Trail is a long paved bike trail stretching from Griffith to Hobart. Section 2 starts at the Oak Ridge Prairie & Oak Savannah Trail Park. It goes south and west to the intersection with the Chesapeake & Ohio Greenway, and north past the Griffith airport off Main Street.

Parking

Paid Parking can be found at the lot by the pavilion inside the park. Entrance to the park requires a fee.

Restrooms

There are no restrooms on this trail, but there are bathrooms at the park pavilion.

Trail Vibe

We start the Oak Savannah Trail from the pavilion parking lot. First we go south and west, past a large sledding hill, an oak savannah forest, and open fields. The trail crosses railroad tracks and heads along through a lovely wooded section filled with tall trees. Sometimes we will go as far as the Chesapeake & Ohio Greenway branch off. This is a wonderful path for immersing yourself in nature. There aren't typically a lot of people on this section, so it is very calm and peaceful. Back by the pavilion, there is a beautiful pond filled with lily pads and geese. It is so pretty on a sunny day. The trail meanders past the playground and through another section of woods before emerging next to the Griffith airport. Time it right and you can watch the planes take off and land. Be warned, this section tends to be very buggy in the summer.
